Opens Its Kafenio

 

To kick off the new season, Prometheas organizes a traditional KAFENIO evening:

Friday, September 28, 2001, 8:00 to 10:30 p.m.

at the Clara Barton Community Center,

7425 MacArthur Blvd, Bethesda MD, 20818.

Come and enjoy delicious mezedes with ouzo and wine, play tavli, meet your friends and talk about your favorite topics, including current events and summer experiences.

We will also have the opportunity to talk about the future plans of Prometheas activities and even borrow "Pericles’Funeral Oration" (Pericleous Epitafios) in both ancient Greek and English. This was recently published by the Greek Parliament (limited edition) and was carried out by the Athens School of Fine Arts.

The well-known Apocalypse Band with Giorgos Barlas will play background music for our entertainment. To offset part of the cost there will be an admission charge of $7.00 per person (children under 12 years of age are admitted free).

From St. George Church: From Bradley Blvd. turn left on Seven Locks Rd. Cross River Rd. and go about one a mile and turn left on MacArthur Blvd. The Center is about 0.5 of a mile on your left. The Center is only 3.3 miles for St. George and only 1.7 miles from the intersection River Road and Seven Locks (or beltway Exit 39).

From Virginia via the Beltway: Going toward Maryland and immediately after the American Legion bridge (over the Potomac river) take Exit 41, Clara Barton Parkway towards Washington. After about one mile take the first Exit (Cabin Johns) to MacArthur Blvd., turn left on MacArthur Blvd., the Center is immediately on your right.

Note: The Cabin Johns bridge on MacArthur Blvd. (near the Clara Barton Center), is currently being repaired and is closed to traffic. Do not go north on MacArthur Blvd. to reach the Center. Computerized directions do not take the bridge repair into account. For easy access, follow the directions above.
