The first speaker will explain the reasons why the Orthodox Church celebrates the three Hierarchs collectively on the 30th of January. The featured keynote speaker, who is currently working on his Ph. D. in Greek philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania, will offer his views on why ancient Greek thought has been so seminal and influential throughout the history of civilization, down to modern times. The originality of Greek philosophy in dealing with universal concepts, the development of the language as an effective means of formulating and communicating philosophical ideas, and the manifold contributions of Greek thought and Greek letters of the so-called Golden Age will be highlighted.Friday, January 28, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Founders Hall7701 Bradley Boulevard, Bethesda, MD 20817
