Prometheas has been organizing events for the Washington Metro Area
throughout its 20 years of existence. A selection of such events is listed
below.

The members of PROMETHEAS believe that these events have enriched their lives, added to their understanding of various interesting topics and have  provided them with the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas on a regular basis.

  • The Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies and The Georgetown University Hellenic Students Association presented Dr. Thanos M. Veremis in a speech entitled "Greek Foreign Policy in Southeastern Europe, 1991-2001"

  • GREEK FILMS IN WASHINGTON--SPRING 2002
  • Greek Cinema Films: The Hellenic Society Prometheas is proud to present Classic Greek Films in Washington. This spring we start with the much beloved and always vibrant: “REMBETIKO” by Costas Ferris, Music -- Stavros Xarhakos, Lyrics -- Nikos Gatsos, With English subtitles at Cineplex Odeon Foundry, 1055 Thomas Jefferson St. NW  (from Georgetown Barnes and Noble follow Jefferson towards Potomac river)  202/333-8613 Wednesday, May 9, and Saturday, May 12, at 7:30
  • An evening of fun and entertainment at our KAFENEION evening. Enjoyed tavli  delicious mezedes, ouzo, wine, sweets and Greek coffee in a relaxed and friendly setting with live Greek music by  Achilleas and Compania.
  • Press release on the occasion of the great event on the occasion of the Athens 2004 Olympics that was sponsored by our organization recently.
  • On Wednesday, October 20, 2004, 8:00 p.m. at St. George Greek Orhtodox Church, Bethesda, MD  Prometheas in cooperation with the Press and Information Office of the Greek Embassy presented editor Thanasis Maskaleris on  “Preserving the Greek Heritage/The Role of Literature” with a special tribute to Nikos Kazantzakis.   • On Friday, October 29, 2004, 7:30 p.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Bethesda, MD Prometheas presented an evening on “Reflections on the Athens 2004 Olympics”. Professor Alexander Kitroeff will be the speaker and panel moderator of a discussion among a number of Olympic volunteers. A video of the Olympics will also be shown.   • On Friday, November 19, 2004, 8:00 p.m. Greek movie at St. Katherine’s Church, at Falls Church, VA.  (For more details please click here).

  • Prometheas’ Greek Movie Night on Friday, January 14, 2005, 8:00 p.m. Prometheas will show the Greek movie H KALPIKH LYRA at St. Katherine’s Church, at Falls Church, VA.

  • Prometheas’ Greek Letters Day Celebration ,  On January 28th at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Bethesda, MD.  Guest speakers: Professor Carlos Montemayor and Dr. Achilles Adamantiades.  After the speeches, we will cut the Vassilopita.

  • Celebration of the 184th Anniversary of the Greek Independence at St. George Church in Bethesda, MD (see complete announcement).  This event, as always, was co-sponsored by many Hellenic organizations of the Washington DC area and this year features Keynote Speaker Dr. John Anton, Distinguished Professor of Greek Philosophy and Culture at the University of South Florida, who will speak on “Missolonghi: The Impact on the War of Independence and its Lessons’.  Details...

  • Prometheas presented the Classic Greek movie: “A matter of dignity” («Το Tελευταίο Ψέμα»).

  • Prometheas hosted a Poetry and Musical Evening where Rigas Kappatos presented the poet
    Nikos Kavvadias,  and Aglaia Koras performed at the piano popular Greek songs.
